Allan Houser: Legend Born Free exhibition

Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is one of 9 Oklahoma museums selected to display the works of Allan Houser in the statewide recognition of Celebrating Allan Houser: An Oklahoma Perspective. The Duncan exhibition will feature the illustrations of the legendary artists, who would have been 100 years old, this year. He was the first child born into Chiricahua Apache Nation, after it was released from the United States Government. His work includes bronzes, illustrations and paintings. The museum will feature illustrations that were published in children’s books in the 1950s and the museum has collected the seven books for a supporting vignette. The museum also has one of his bronzes in its permanent collection in the Garis Gallery of the American West.
In connection with the exhibition, the museum will focus its summer educational programs on the Native American cowboy.
