Please briefly describe your practice or specialty.
I am an otologist/neurotologist. This is a subspecialty of otolaryngology (ENT). I treat people with hearing and balance problems.
Why did you choose medicine and your field in particular?
I had always wanted to be a doctor. I chose my specialty because it is a good mixture of surgery and office practice.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is my patients. They are why I come to work each day. I am also fortunate to be part of a great group. We are one of the largest otolaryngology partnerships in the Midwest.
What are the most challenging aspects?
The most challenging aspect of my practice is making sure I am doing the best I can for every patient.
How has your practice changed in recent years?
The practice of medicine is continually evolving. The biggest change I’ve seen lately has been in computerized records. The day of paper charting is rapidly vanishing.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is making people better. There is a real joy in restoring or improving someone’s hearing.
Describe one of your best moments as a doctor.
One of the best moments I experience is when patients awaken from surgery and can hear better. The smiles on their faces are amazing.
What’s your professional philosophy?
My philosophy is to treat patients how I would want myself or a loved one to be treated.
Do you foresee any breakthrough on the horizon that will significantly change your practice?
The greatest technological advances have been in implantable hearing devices such as cochlear implants. I am very excited about expanding our cochlear implant program here in Tulsa to include children.
