I am a pulmonary medicine specialist with a majority of my practice focused on interventional pulmonology and thoracic oncology.
Why did you choose medicine and your field in particular?
Medicine was a first and only choice as a profession. Pulmonary medicine is a field that involves complex procedures, critical care and the diagnosis and management of the most seriously ill.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of the job is providing life saving or life changing decisions that improve a patient’s quality of life.
What are the most challenging aspects?
The challenges of medicine are fighting devastating diseases which are frequently life threatening to many.
What is the goal of the research you’re involved with?
Present research projects are focused on improving quality of life in patients with very severe lung disease, such as emphysema and lung cancer. These projects are focused on developing new techniques, which might spare the patient from major surgeries.
How has your practice changed in recent years?
My present practice involves teaching medical students, residents and pulmonary fellows, research in advanced pulmonary procedures and patient care.
What’s your professional philosophy?
Treat my patients as I would want my mother treated.
Do you foresee any breakthrough on the horizon that will significantly change your practice?
Technology is wonderful. Some of the new procedures and techniques I am presently using were not available five to 10 years ago. As these procedures progress, there will be a better way to provide high quality of care to our patients.
