Years ago, there were few theater and performing arts attractions booked in the summer. Actors, dancers and singers typically had a brief respite from rehearsals as companies and groups prepared for the season to come. SummerStage Tulsa changed that. The festival of performing arts has picked up momentum over the last several years with a roster of one-night, one-weekend and multi-week shows in live theater, dance programs and musical performances booked for several weeks in summer, a time when entertainment venues are usually dark. SummerStage Tulsa enters the second half of its June through July 22 run with such shows as Dorothy in India from the Sanskriti School of Dance and featuring Indian folk and Bollywood dance; an evening with the lauded Vintage Wildflowers trio; children’s musical theater; and three shows from Rebecca Ungerman’s Spinning Plates Productions, including A Blossom, Dearie!, about ‘60s jazz icon Blossom Dearie, June 30-July 1 at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.
